Every Child Deserves A Happy Home
We create housing opportunities for families living in South Africa’s most dangerous areas.
She woke up in the middle of the night, and saw things she shouldn’t have seen.
80% of children in South Africa live in a permanent state of mild distress due to living in unsafe environments.
Armed robberies, violent attacks and the ever-present threat of danger put children in a state of defense and fear.
How can a child thrive, be creative, and enjoy a happy upbringing when they are subconsciously scanning for danger, unable to relax, even at home?
The Iviwe Hope Foundation aims to provide as many families as possible with safe and secure housing, so that children can feel safe and supported as they grow up.
This organisation began because a little girl woke up one night with five heavily armed men robbing her home.
80% of Children in South Africa Live In The Most Dangerous Neighbourhoods in the Country
In these unsafe areas, children wake up to the sounds of gunshots and home invasions are commonplace. The Iviwe Hope Foundation aims to give as many families with children new opportunities for housing. By moving families from dangerous locations to homes in safe and secure environments, children will no longer worry about the threat of crime infiltrating their homes and destroying their childhoods.
As an organisation, this is a mammoth task, especially in a country which has countless, tireless systemic challenges. But we’re here for the haul and firmly believe that our work can make a difference, transforming the life of a child, one project at a time.
Who We Are
Founded by Renaldo Jacobs, the Iviwe Hope Foundation was created to give children the safety, security and support required to live a happy childhood.
The organisation is run by five friends, most of whom are parents, who all share the same belief that children deserve to grow up in a world free from harm, where it’s safe for them to pursue their dreams and make them come true.
What We Do
The Iviwe Hope Foundation offers new housing opportunities to families living in challenging areas in South Africa. Our approach is two-fold, where we not only establish a family in a safer, more secure home, but also help the family become self-sustaining over several years.
Our pilot project kicked off in 2021 and is still going strong. Since its inception, we’ve rehoused one family, and have changed the lives of four individuals. Forever.
